Welcome!

This is the official website for the Intensive Workshop of Japanese Textual Scholarship, which is organized as part of the academic activities of the network named J-PATS (Japanese Palaeography and Textual Scholarship). This intensive workshop is a three-day workshop, which teaches how to engage with early-modern books, prints and ephemera in their materiality and how to catalogue them. Lectures about key aspects of early-modern printed and handwritten products are combined with interactive seminars that train the participants how to produce a detailed bibliographic description. The seminars will make extensive use of original materials from private collections. There will also be visits to the collections of relevant Japanese materials in the Cambridge University Library and the Fitzwilliam Museum (Cambridge). Knowledge of Japanese is required.
